COGENERATION

What is Cogeneration?

It is to produce electricity and thermal energy simultaneously from the same fuel in the same system. Thus, a saving is achieved by acquiring a high fuel and energy efficiency. Power generation becomes more environmentally friendly through this saving. For a long time, many organizations worldwide prefer cogeneration system; while making savings, they also take a clean environment factor into consideration.

How does it work?

In a cogeneration system; while the gas turbine or gas / diesel engine rotates the electric generator  to generate a certain amount of electricity, a significant amount of the useful waste heat generated by exhaust gases of the turbine or the engine, or engine coolant is transformed into steam, hot water or hot air using waste heat  boiler or heat exchanger. In this context, co-generation plants, using fuel input only, provide heat in the form of electricity, steam, hot water and hot air with very high thermal efficiency.

Why CO-GENERATION?

  • A gas turbine or engine operating in simple cycle, i.e. producing electricity only, can convert only 30-40% of the energy it uses into electricity. If this system is used in co-generation mode, 70 to 92% of the total energy input can be utilized by converting a major portion of the thermal energy taken out of the system into useable energy.
  • These performance criteria are determined under “Unlicensed Electricity Production” in our country, and the relevant legislation came into force after publication.
  • In general system setup, the primary energy saving obtained by cogeneration techniques is realized as 42%. Therefore, one of the most important contributions of the cogeneration system to the environment emerges here; in addition to energy savings, waste emissions are also significantly reduced.
  • Cleaner Energy Production
  • It is also possible to use other fossil fuels, in addition to natural gas, and biofuel and waste.
  • Cogeneration always provides constant voltage and constant frequency.
  • No distribution loss in produced energy
  • Short Installation Time
  • Time and Ease of Maintenance
  • Investment Redeemed in a Short Time
